Personal Demons - Stacia Kane

Personal Demons
Stacia Kane
Wildside
April
ISBN 0809572559
Urban Fantasy
*****

Her promises to "slay personal demons" for her listeners and patients were supposed to be only taken as a figure of speech. Despite her paranormal gift that allowed her to read minds, Megan did not really believe there were demons out there, and certainly not that they would come after her. However, she has to alter her thoughts when she begins to see them and when a friend, Greyson, turns out to be one that is trying to keep her safe from the Accuser himself. This turn of events also forces her to confront her pain filled childhood and the incident that made her a parriah in her home town. Unless she gets past that, if she survives, her future will be ruined. Of course, the trio of demon brothers assigned to keep her from becoming roadkill would rather face the legions of Hell than Greyson if they fail to make sure she lives to see tomorrow.

Ms. Kane has managed to blend eerie edginess with laugh out loud humor and just enough romance to make this a truly winning recipe for a good read. She even includes a recipe that looks interesting enough to almost tempt a vegetarian! I simply adored this story, especially the three brothers 0809572559who I cannot decide if I'd enjoy having around or if they'd drive me mad trying to "take care of me" where I their charge. Treat yourself to this when you want to smile.

Though there's a variety of reasons she ought to avoid him, there's a strong reason for them to work together; they share a deadly enemy who Jazz thought she had killed seventy years ago. He's more dangerous than ever and poses a threat to their entire world, even to the dead.

My soul laughed so much as I read this book! I loved the quirky characters and hope to see them again. This is fun without being silly. Smart humor is hard to find, and when you do, it's to be treasured. Originality makes this book a true keeper.

When Tucker Monroe needs an alibi after a woman he spent a slight amount of time with is killed, Olivia Chatham is his salvation, but the slightly daffy seeming, much married young woman is not content to just do that for him. Convinced not only of his innocence, but that Tucker is nursing a broken heart that seeing justice for the woman he loved done can help heal, Olivia sets out to solve the case, with Tucker and her sister in reluctant tow. As he works with her, Tucker realizes she might be different, but it's a good different, and she's far brighter than she lets on. Despite his anti-marriage stance, Olivia gets to him. However, as the case unravels, things get dangerous and the future turns iffy.

This is a laugh out loud masterpiece. Whilly clean, it intrigues you and keeps you smiling from beginning to end. Olivia is utterly charming and I hope this is only her first outing as a sleuth. I love this book and it goes on my virtual keeper shelf.

Ravine is a down-to-earth, practical attorney who does things her own way. Then, she finds a genie, and suddenly, things have to change, starting with her. Gene is not your ordinary Genie. He's only been one a few decades, cursed to fulfill wishes by a man whose woman he might have dallied with, and gotten caught. He's also not Arabian, but an Aussie. It does not take long to realize that there is something more between them than master and servant; for one thing, Ravine refuses to treat him as a slave, preferring to call him her partner. Yet, both know that once a third wish is made, he will have to depart.

This story has something to touch all your emotional senses; humor, drama, touching moments, and romance. Gene is the most charming jinn I've ever encountered, a perfect contrast to Ravine's type A-ness. If you have never read or actively avoided genie stories, then this exceptional book deserves to be your first, and if you love them, then definitely get it.

Confessions of a Werewolf Supermodel - Ronda Thompson

Lou Kinipski has the most unusual beauty secret of any of the top models on the catwalk. In fact, given what it is, you probably should not refer to the runway as the catwalk. Until seven years ago, she was drop dead ugly, then she turned into a werewolf. Once she bruises from an attempted rape that triggered the change heal, she's gorgeous. Because she killed her would be rapist, she went on the run, got a new identity, and became a star model. Life is good, with only a few concessions to her condition required until someone begins killing women who look like her and Lou's past starts to become an issue. Making things even more complicated are the four men now in her life; a sleazy, but still somewhat charming PI, the photographer she's had a crush on for years, the policeman who is the lead on the case, and a vampire. At least two of them could be handy, considering that she's definitely on the killer's list of victims. Romance is not Lou's biggest concern, however. Worry about her past and if she has a future are vying for that role.

I loved this! Suspense and fun are mixed so well that you are on the edge of your seat and laughing at the same time. Seeds of wonderful stories that should be told are scattered throughout the pages, making you want to revisit Lou and her world again. This is a definite keeper.
