As she attempts to end her husband, Frank's, life violently, his dog attacks the beautiful Catherine, destroying her best asset, her face, in the process. Yet, a facial transplant and Frank's love seem to work a transformation in Catherine. Now, scarred and with varicolored eyes, she seems to be a new woman, one who loves him and is kind. However, Frank soon discovers that the "new" Catherine is not totally Catherine or totally new. When her eyes go from being one blue and one green to two blue ones, there's trouble ahead. Two souls battle for the right to her body and to a life, and if Catherine wins, all Hell will break loose.

I can almost certainly guarantee you have not read a story like this before. Excellent suspense and an intriguing concept blend perfectly. I can also hardly believe two people wrote it, so well do their voices unite; which, considering the subject, has a bit of irony inherent in that fact. Many people avoid small press releases, but this is one you should not miss.

Aisling Grey's life just keeps getting more complicated. She's supposed to be just a Guardian, but as it turns out, she's far more than that; the mate of two Dragon Lords of different septs, one she is trying to plan a wedding to and the other she'd just as soon be without, she's also a demon lord by accident, and somehow has become a Prince of Hell. The last one has put her on the outs with the Guardians, now she has to get a proscription against herself lifted and try to get out of being a Prince. Yet, the lure of evil is constantly niggling at her to use her power and the wedding is complicated by all her issues, including sept politics. Add to that that she's expecting, and you can see why Aisling's on overload.

Fun paranormal romance has several Co-queens, and Ms Macalister definitely is one of them. Aisling's adventures are a mental feast that is the sure cure for a face that lacks a smile. Her entire supporting cast is one you will look forward to experiencing anew with each book. There is warmth, and not just from the dragons. You can feel her love of her people and you will share it.

For years now, Ms. Davidson has created feisty, flakey, fun heroines who charm her readers and escort them to worlds that are just a bit wider than our own. In this charming anthology, we get to "daytrip" to three of them for the price of one. Though Fred is not the heroine of the Survivors, one of her fellow mermaids finds a delightful romance with a conceited newsman she rescues. It may not be the Little Mermaid, but it's definitely more than a splash of fun. If you adore the Wyndham Werewolves, then go with one as she tries Speed Dating, Werewolf style, in an effort to wed before she's thirty. However, my personal favorite brings us to Betsy, the Undead Vampire Queen, as she and Sinclair go on their honeymoon in Undead and Wed, and try to make peace with Betsy's best friend's boyfriend who hates their guts. Something sinister is going on that will force enemies to work together, but it really does a number on romance. The best part of all though is the tantalizing taste of the next Undead book at the end. I can hardly wait.

One last assignment separates Gawan, an earth locked guardian angel, from becoming mortal and having a life of his own. Heaven's saved the best, and most challenging, for last. Ellie is not alive, but she's not exactly dead, either. She's in a coma, but has amnesia, so helping her resolve her issues and return to her body is problematic. That's not the main reason this is a tough assignment; as it happens, Ellie is Gawan's soul mate. Unfortunately, if she returns to her body, she'll no longer remember him and he won't remember her, either. If she dies, she'll become the angel and he the human, and they still will not be together. Is there a way to solve this? Of course, but you'll have to read to find out.

This may remind you, from the synopsis, of Just Like Heaven or City of Angels. However, it's far better than either, and is what I was hoping for each time I watched either DVD. Ellie and Gawan's story is sweetly angsty and poignant, but also funny. The cast of Spirited Away enriches it with added humor, and fans will love returning to that world, in any case. Sequels are seldom better than the first book, but there are exceptions, and this is one. Yes, Christmas is over, but it's a perfect any time gift for anyone who loves romance and loves ghosts.

Kerena finds herself being given to Morley, a wise, magical man who offers her a better future than the life of poverty her family suffers, and teaches her much; logic, magic, and love. When he is abruptly taken from her, a quest to find him begins that will lead her into brothels, to becoming part of the Arthurian legend, to vampires, and then on a quest of cosmic proportions where she will meet Death, War, Time, Nature, Fate, the Devil, and Good Incarnates. She will also learn her role in life and find herself trying to save creation itself.

Even if you pick up this book first and have not read the other seven; if that's so, shame on you, they are a must read for fans of fantasy, you can follow what is going on with no trouble. This story will give you a fresh appreciation for all the others and insights into them that may make you want to go back and read them all again. Saying more would spoil too much of the story, though I will say that toward the end, the timeline issues did rather remind me of Bearing an Hourglass.

One half vampire and the other half human, Cat started life as being out of the ordinary. Ever since, she's tried to live up to that label and made it her mission in life to destroy the monsters. However, when her amateur Buffy act goes awry, she finds herself saddled with a mentor/partner who is supposed to be her enemy. Bones has been a vampire for over two centuries, and finding Cat is a trial and a treasure for him. With her help, the undead bounty hunter will be better able to off the monsters himself, but first, she needs training and they both need to learn to work together and trust. The latest job is one more deadly than either anticipated and will prove to be the ultimate test of the bond they reluctantly, then passionately forged.

Do not walk, run to your car or keyboard and get this book immediately if you love a good urban fantasy. Cat and Bones' explosive chemistry sizzles off the page, but is never graphic and does not go too far, as so many of the books lately are wont to do. There is also a thread of genuine Christian faith running through it that is not preachy, but adds depth to the story. Julie Kenner is the only other urban fantacist I've encountered who weaves that in so well. Aside from the well drawn characters, this book as nonstop action and a fantastic plot. I can hardly wait for more!

The past has come back to bite Eve Dallas, but this time, it is her professianal, not personal history that is haunting her. This time, she is determined to get him, but he is equally commited to taking her down and is drawing a bloody canvas designed to lure her to him. Could this be the case that ends it for Eve?

Incredibly enough, this series just continues to get better. The intensity of the action doesn't detract at all from the characterization. You might as well be comfortable on the edge of your seat with this; it's a nail biting read, but immensely satisfying. I cannot praise it highly enough.

Sabrina needs to know the truth about a trio of mystic stones said to be old as Creation, magical rocks tied to her father's legacy and her own destiny. Her quest takes her to see Seth, or more properly, Setheus, an enigmatic man who is actually an angel who sacrificed his place in Heaven to protect humanity from the rebellious angels who want the stones and to wrest control of life away from God. After so long, Seth's life has become a torture to him, but when Sabrina enters his carefully controlled world, he finds new interest. He also finds that the war against evil has flared into intense life and it will take his closest brothers plus all Sabrina has to give to defeat it.

The only flaw in this story is that it is far too short. The angelic mythos presented here is utterly fascinating and I would love to explore it in greater depth. You will not regret adding this book to your TBR pile, just don't make it a to be read for long. Read it.

Christians are called to live in the world, but not be of it, a seemingly impossible task. Books such as this illustrate how it is possible and rewarding. The Templar Vampire knows he must achieve an escape for both himself and Jessica before it's too late. Yet, he also knows the terrible price that their freedom will exact.

This is a very different book from the two previous volumes in the series, with a decidedly different focus. Those who have followed the storyline will be most intrigued by the additional details given about the mythos of the Templar Vampire Knights and their sacred duty. Perhaps Tempting Darkness is the most intense of the three novels to date, with its themes of sacrifice, family, betrayal, and revenge. It is also the most powerful.

Several years ago, it seemed as if everyone expected Y2K to bring about the End of Days. It fizzled in this world, but Delilah Street's Earth, it was appocolyptic in the true sense of the word- revelatory. Rather than ending life, it revealed that witches, were-beings, vampires, and all things mystic are real. Delilah is not a witch or other para-being, at least she doesn't think she is, but she does investigate them for a local news station until she gets on the wrong powerful being's bad side. That, grief, and seeing her "twin" dead on CSI Las Vegas V impel her to shift her residence to Vegas and try to find out who the mystery woman with her face is. Delilah thought she was alone in the world. Now, she might not be. CSI's producer, Hector Nightwine, provides her with a job and a place to live. He is only one of the intriguing males who will come into Del's life. The vampire, Snow, wraps her wrist in an enchanted bracelet with strange powers that couuld lead to trouble. Ex-FBI agent, Ric Montoya, provides her with help, via his dowsing powers, and romance. Then, there is her new dog, a wolf hybrid, who could be considered her familiar. Her investigation will show Delilah just how complex and dangerous the world is. CinSims, beings who replicate matinee idols, a werewolf/vampire war, mystical spiders, and Vegas itself keep the action fast paced and filled with rich images. Delilah may have bitten off more than she can chew, or it might just be the start of something wonderful. My vote is for the latter.

Ms. Douglas' return to fantasy is a triumph. She has enhanced the present reality with magic and excitement that leaps off the page and never slows down. Readers' minds will be filled with vivid pictures, but never too much information. Yet, despite the fast pace, there are raw, emotional moments that will strike your heart. Though set in Vegas, this book is not a gamble. You can only win if you read it.

Declan MacKenzie, vampire, would be a perfect soul to claim. Sparkle Stardust, cosmic trouble maker/fashionista extraordinaire, thinks so as well, but she has a very different match up for the two in mind. She's bound and determined to get them together, by any means necessary, and believe me, she's an expert on temptation. Unfortunately, she's also a little crippled this time. She just had an NDE, got sent back to Earth because it wasn't her time, and woke up to find out she, at less than thirty, had experienced a heart incident. She also learns that she has the ability to see and hear the dead. Now, all the ghosts are bugging her for favors, and one ghost, one who used to be her friend, is able to hurt her and has very evil plans for Nicki. She'll need the help of a voodoo priestess, and maybe moral support from her best friend and the hunky doctor who brought her back from life, to keep from being worse off than dead. It'll also take a lot of faith. If she makes it through this trial, perhaps she and the good doctor can settle their relationship issues. Is it creepy that she is identical to his missing, possibly dead, wife?

Light, sardonic humor balances out the inherent horror of Nicki's impending fate worse than death. Ms. Garey manages to juggle a great many plots all at the same time, making this a read for those of nimble minds. Centuries ago, a band of Templars was cursed to "live" as vampires. Yet, despite this, they still aspire to redemption and hope to regain a chance at Heaven. Thus, Rogue, Constantine, Sebastian, and Tristan have spent the last six centuries fighting evil. Yet, they live with cold hearts and let no one outside their fellowship get close to them. Then, they rescue Allie from a renegade vampire. The mortal woman becomes a regular part of their world, and one that Sebastian cannot ignore. Giving in to the love that she longs for would only place her in danger, especially with the evil brand of vampires becoming more reckless and daring.

Though the theme of vampires seeking redemption is a rather common one, Ms. Lyons spin on it is not trite at all. Having the vampires live together as a company, as well as their vocation being Christian, is unique. Moreover, they do not get too broody, which can be a flaw in many such stories. There is plenty of action and romance to keep the story moving and the world that she has built is very intriguing.

Eric finds himself falling for a woman trained to kill his kind.

Kacie and Eric's story is a compelling one, drawing on the complexities of family life and the quest for political power, as well as the abiding theme of transitions. Readers will delight with the changing relationship between the young woman and the man she has respected and who has watched over her all through her life. If you have missed the earlier books in this series, this one stands well on its own, so you may freely dive into it before backtracking.

Ravine is a down-to-earth, practical attorney who does things her own way. Then, she finds a genie, and suddenly, things have to change, starting with her. Gene is not your ordinary Genie. He's only been one a few decades, cursed to fulfill wishes by a man whose woman he might have dallied with, and gotten caught. He's also not Arabian, but an Aussie. It does not take long to realize that there is something more between them than master and servant; for one thing, Ravine refuses to treat him as a slave, preferring to call him her partner. Yet, both know that once a third wish is made, he will have to depart.

This story has something to touch all your emotional senses; humor, drama, touching moments, and romance. Gene is the most charming jinn I've ever encountered, a perfect contrast to Ravine's type A-ness. If you have never read or actively avoided genie stories, then this exceptional book deserves to be your first, and if you love them, then definitely get it.

Ever since being struck by lightening, Harper Connelly has had the ability to locate dead bodies and tell how they died. This ability has been both useful to society as well as to her finances. Her latest case involves finding a great number of corpses, all of them children, who are the victims of a serial killer. Before she can leave after concluding her work, Harper is attacked, necessitating an extension of her stay in town. Even if she hadn't been hurt, the local authorities want her to remain and help, so she and Tolliver find themselves forced to accomodate the situation. It also forces the two of them to realize that they are not related and deal with the feelings they have submerged for years.

This is Harper's most deadly case yet, with events in it that mirror real life events in some ways. Fans will note that this entry seems to mark a turning point for the beloved heroine, and one does wonder where the stories will go from here. Be aware that light humor and fun are downplayed in favor of a grittier story. Despite this, if you love the series, be sure and get this asap.

That said, Tolliver and Harper moving into a sexual relationship may disturb some people. For two books now, they have presented themselves as siblings, despite not being related by blood, just by love. Even though they do not share a mutual parent, there is a tinge of incest to this turn of events that potentially will turn away readers or make some of us shudder.

One thing about Morganville you need to know before moving there is that the solutions to problems have new problems inherent inside them. Becoming Amelie, the founder of the vampire line's, protectee was supposed to make things better for Claire and those she loves. So far, it's just added to her burdens. Her "patron" has ordered the girl to study with an insane vampire alchemist, working on a top secret project to what end she does not know. The meanest girl in town, the one who set the chain of events into motion that put Claire into the Glass House, Monica, now wants to be her best friend. There must be an ulterior motive. Two of her housemates are at each others' throats, which is only natural since Shane is the son of a vampire hunter and Michael is now a vampire. Claire finds herself the focus of too much attention and not knowing who to trust in the vampyric political games that turn human lives into chess pieces.

If you love complex stories in well built worlds, then it's time to take a trip to Morganville. Each new entry into the series fits neatly after the last and ends in such a way as to make you hunger for the next one to resolve the questions opened at its conclusion. Whatever your age, it will be impossible not to be fascinated by this edgy, unfolding drama.

A stalker sends "bad twin" Torie Bradshaw running to Matt Callahan, the man who once rescued her and subsequently got under her skin, making himself unforgettable. Matt has enough problems without Torie in his life, but he finds it impossible to say no to her; mostly because she won't go away. Murder changes things, though, and the pair finds themselves partners in solving a crime. However, Matt is not being purely altruistic; he's getting something out of this deal besides job satisfaction. To stave off matrimony minded women, he fakes an engagement to Torie, not realizing she'd like to make it real.

With the fun that hallmarked Ms. Dawson's historical work, especially the Bad Luck series, this romance takes readers on a wild ride. Though the pacing was at times uneven, that can be forgiven because of the overall quality and superb characterizations.

Claire Kennedy's tenure as mayor of Lake Bluff Georgia is about to become the most interesting of any mayor's in the sleepy town's history. The sudden appearances of odd wolves and Gypsies at almost the same time seems a little strange. Then, people who give Claire a hard time begin to disappear; is the handsome Rom who has taken a shine to her involved? Is there magic in the air, and is it black or white? Before Claire can find happiness, these questions have to be answered.

If you have missed the Night Creatures series, for shame. However, as each one can stand alone easily, you will have no problem being sucked into this evolving universe. Fans will take note that there is a new sort of werewolf introduced, one even Edward will not know how to deal with, once he arrives. It's wonderful to see that there is more to Ms. Handeland's realm than we knew, and now I want to see what's next.

As Zoe struggles to cope with the many changes being Marked has wrought in her life, not the least of them being her new role as leader of the Dark Daughters, sinister things begin to go on around her. Human boys are disappearing and dying horribly, and certain events are leading Zoe to wonder who she can trust inside the House of Night. Surprisingly enough, her worst enemy is not as much of a hag as Zoe thought. The implications of that truth will have effects that threaten to tear Zoe's life to shreds, or to make her stronger.

Now that you're done with Harry Potter and want to know what to read next, no matter what your age is, put this series on the list. The Casts have created a world that is equally or more complex and compelling than that of the boy wizard. I savored every page as Zoe's life unfolded before us with all the traumas of teen years magnified by her gifts. Bring on the next entry soon!

Lou Kinipski has the most unusual beauty secret of any of the top models on the catwalk. In fact, given what it is, you probably should not refer to the runway as the catwalk. Until seven years ago, she was drop dead ugly, then she turned into a werewolf. Once she bruises from an attempted rape that triggered the change heal, she's gorgeous. Because she killed her would be rapist, she went on the run, got a new identity, and became a star model. Life is good, with only a few concessions to her condition required until someone begins killing women who look like her and Lou's past starts to become an issue. Making things even more complicated are the four men now in her life; a sleazy, but still somewhat charming PI, the photographer she's had a crush on for years, the policeman who is the lead on the case, and a vampire. At least two of them could be handy, considering that she's definitely on the killer's list of victims. Romance is not Lou's biggest concern, however. Worry about her past and if she has a future are vying for that role.

I loved this! Suspense and fun are mixed so well that you are on the edge of your seat and laughing at the same time. Seeds of wonderful stories that should be told are scattered throughout the pages, making you want to revisit Lou and her world again. This is a definite keeper.

Ellie knows that she is not exactly the best catch in town, but still, she cannot bring herself to accept the boorish butcher's son as her betrothed, even when he uses a dirty trick to create a binding agreement between them. Mentally, she cries out for rescue, not realizing what she is doing, and the Lord of the Fading Lands, Rain, the Tauren Soul, hears her and recognizes the voice of his true mate. Thus, a chain of events that threatens to set off a diplomatic incident between two worlds, but could save the soul of a king who has lost his joy, and with him, his land, is set into motion.

This is definitely a fairy tale for adults, complete with the handsome royal sweeping in on his charger to rescue the fair maid. Magic and romance combine in this story that brings to mind the Brothers Grimm, King Arthur, and other classic fantasies, most effectively. I look forward to more from this author.

Giving in to rage cost Marty Hogan her career and ultimately forced her to relocate to a nothing town in the Texas panhandle to find work as a policewoman. Her tough as nails attitude is impressive to her new boss, Clay Settlemeyer, and he's had enough regrets to be willing to give her a second chance. Yet, bad news combined with incidents that look somewhat fishy make him wonder if the lady has PTSD. When the truth comes out, that the Russian mafia is out for her blood, terror will reign over their lives until justice is served.

Even without the minimalist love story, this would be a blazingly fast paced story guaranteed to satisfy your need for vicarious thrills. Marty is an unusual, take no prisoners, both tough and soft heroine who makes herself memorable not only to Clay, but to readers who wish for half her backbone.

In China, a Catholic priest suffers as a martyr for his steadfast loyalty to Christ and to the Roman church. Knowing his plight, the pope asks Nolan Kilkenny to get Father Yin, who the pontiff has elevated to the status of Cardinal, to freedom. Despite the danger and his anger at God, the ex-SEAL agrees and begins to immediately plan how to achieve his goal. The tension and pressing need only increases when the pope dies and Yin is suddenly a candidate to replace him. He's also on death row. However, though many of the cardinals would like to heed the late pope's tacit request that the Chinese man become the first Oriental pope, there are forces that do not want him to escape to get the chance. One Judas is all it would take to kill not only the prisoner, but his rescuers. Miracles will be needed.

It's so very refreshing to find a thrilling novel filled with intrigue that affirms the faith. Even Protestants, like myself, will be absorbed by the fast-paced action and labyrinthine politics. If somehow Tom Clancy and Andrew Greeley collaborated on a book, the results might look somewhat like this. Forget Da Vinci and its many clones that try to tear down Christ's true bride. Go for something like this, a feel good, action novel.

It has already forced the Canim out of their lands, exacerbating the tensions in his own as a flood of immigrants vie for their place in the world and resentments boil. But, it won't stop there. If Tavi cannot forge a peace between the antagonists that are already tearing apart Alera on multiple levels, friend and foe alike will be lost in an all consuming void. Politics, hypocrisy, and old fears stand in his way, but Tavi has been forged into the one man who has a chance of victory.

Readers are transported to a distant world that feels like a cross between Ancient Rome and Ancient Britain in this complex tale of war and personal growth. Battles are conducted on the field and in the heart, and everywhere in between. Despite this, there is a strong current of love that makes all the fights worth the effort. Once again, Mr. Butcher demonstrates his versatile talent that never fails to engage his audience. However, this is not the Dresden files. It is a far more serious world, with few quips to lighten the tone.

Something has gone wrong in the timeline, not a totally unexpected thing considering that time travel has been opened up as a leisure passtime for tourists, but now the Time Rovers have to fix it. Cynda has been sent back to Victorian London to repair the damage and finds herself neck deep in another serial killer case and facing old and new enemies. As she navigates through the dangers that go beyond those inherent in her profession, Cynda must also deal with the fact that something is wrong in her mind. Like many an agent before her, she is dealing with hallucinations; well, one; Mr. Spider, an arachnid that provides often unwanted advice on his own schedule. As the body count edges higher, Cynda may pay the ultimate price to save proper chronology.

The one complaint I have is that a glossary would have been useful to refresh my mind on the terms, as I've read more than a few books since the first Time Rovers charmed me. However, despite that handicapping factor, I thoroughly enjoyed this fast-paced mystery. If you love Doctor Who, then this is a must-read. The logical narrative is also imaginative and intriguing. Book three cannot come soon enough.

All the worries fans have had over the fate of the lost brother, Dom, who was kidnapped back in The Sword, can be put to rest. Though despite the title, we find him sold as a slave, it would seem that this is simply the hand of destiny, guiding him to the woman who is meant to help him fulfill his part of the curse. Considering how well it's turned out for Wolfer and Saber, I'm not so sure that they should not call it a Blessing. Serina treats Dom well, and even helps him find a way to re-establish contact with his brothers. In turn, he teaches her much and advances her work greatly. However, she wants to have a child, and all of Dom's comments seem to indicate he does not. Besides, he is determined to return to his brothers and sister-in-law; he does not know that the latter is now plural, and she can only follow if her son is welcome. Can their issues be resolved?

Though light on conflict and mostly lacking the appearance of the excellent supporting cast of the Brothers of Destiny, this is a worthy addition to the series. New revelations about the fates the eight men and the women they love face is revealed and it seems as if there is far more to the curse, or as I think of it, blessing, than they guessed. I'm eager to see how Ev, the next brother in the queue, fares.

After her plus-sized modeling career turns up its toes and dies, Leena Riley heads home in disgrace, where, in desperation, she takes a job as a receptionist for the most eligible bachelor in town, Cole Flannigan. The good doctor has grown up since his days of tormenting her in grade school, and suddenly the curves he teased her about are very appealing. However, he's not looking for love, nor is she. But, there is something there that they cannot ignore.

Many readers will probably cheer Leena's role as a plus sized, yet sexy, heroine. A few of us might take issue with the put downs directed at those on the opposite end of the spectrum. Despite that, this is a fun read, made charming by zany characters.

When we left the Land, Linden Avery, the Chosen, had just beheld the sight that should have made her heart rejoice; Thomas Covenant and her beloved adopted son, Jeremiah, were galloping towards Revelstone. Yet, when she sees them, they tell her that she must not touch them, lest she banish them. Covenant's hold on the laws of time he is bending to allow this visitation is tenuous at best. Despite the limits, there is a blessing, her son has a whole mind. Yet, there are many things that just seem wrong about the entire situation. Covenant claims to have a plan, yet he opposes her almost at every turn. Moreover, Foul is not her only foe. Cosmic level beings of power are determined to end all goodness. Linden finds her heart and soul being tisted and turned constantly as she travels across not only the Land, but time. Yet, there remains hope.

There simply are not enough stars to award this book. It is not a lighweight, fluff piece, but an intense, mentally stimulating, and utterly satisfying read. Questions that have abided since Lord Foul's Bane are clarified, characters develop, and old themes echo from the prior series. It breaks my heart to finish a story like this.

Weddings can be somewhat dull, but an assassination attempt is a rather extreme way to liven up tradition. That is just an occupational hazard when the groom is the Boss of the O.S.I. and the bride is one of their top cyborg agent's best friends. Fortunately, the attempt fails and provides a perfect opportunity for the Boss to send in a mole, Jenny Branch, the genius level, but otherwise ordinary girl who manages, or tries to, Caitlyn's (from Hello, Gorgeous) non-spying side of life. Posing as the prisoner of the double agent who had to try and kill the Boss, Kevin Stone, she is prepared to suffer some for the cause. She's not ready to fall in love with Kevin, but things tend to happen fast in the O.S.I. world. Surprises are around every corner, especially when it comes to the Boss.

This is a "gorgeously" fun series. Imagine the Bionic Woman and Six Million Dollar Man, adjusted for inflation, and with a liberal dash of humor. Jenny's story proves that even a non super powered person can be more than capable, though. Yes, there are some traits to the books that could almost be called trademark MJD effects. However, you are buying the books because you like her and how she writes. So, getting what you expect in some form is a good thing. This is a good brain break read. You may not get any profound revelations or have to think a lot, but you will laugh.

BOOK REVIEW - DEATH OF A BLOGGER

Death of a Blogger
Danae M West
Oct
ISBN 9781593749095
Mystery
****

More than a few residents of Stranded, Idaho had good reason to want Wendy Wallace dead. The blogger had been undercutting the newspaper's revenue and spilling all the small town secrets for the entire world wide web to view. When she winds up dead, the best friend of the prime suspect finds herself transformed from artist into sleuth, and hoping she does not turn up as the next victim. Effie also has to manage her friend Molly's campaign for mayor Molly sits in jail and somehow organize the annual Pumpkin Festival. She would also greatly appreciate it if people would shut up about her toadish ex, who is one of the people on her list of potential murderers. Who "dun" it? Was it the lecherous doctor? The late mayor's wife who is trying to make the job permanent? Could it be the snide lady who runs the newspaper, or the New Agey reverend? Effie is about to learn more about her neighbors than she wants to, even without reading Wendy's blog.

Unlike many fun, humorous mysteries, Death of a Blogger does not go over the top creating unrealistic humor. Don't get me wrong, it's a fun read, but you don't have to suspend disbelief to imagine it taking place. Small touches make it seem plausible, and you will laugh as well. I hope this is only Effie's first case, though it sounds like she'll have plenty to keep her busy, even without playing Trixie Belden, in the future.
